the Chinese New Year Spread

Our team is a little bit famous for hosting great site lunches. The guys invite whatever trades are on site to join us and used to call me to make sure I bring enough food. Now they know there’s always plenty cause I’m Hungarian and have a lots of kids in my life who delight in the leftovers.

On our last major Renovation Gillian our flient (means client who becomes a friend) took over chef duties a few times and WOW the woman can cook! She made these amazing grilled steak focascia sandwiches with grilled red peppers if I remember right, believe me the guys do. Plus the delicious dinner she made good on using all six burners of the gourmet gas range we installed in the new kitchen we built for her when Gillian and Michael hosted a thank you party for our team.

Me, I keep it simple. Last Friday in honor of Chinese New Year, it was home made chili and guacamole, potato chips cause Marc likes them, spicy chicken wings, corn chips, cheese strings cause I thought they were funny, um… what else, tootsie roll pops also very funny, mini brownies, iced tea & perrier, but the guys missed the orange crush that Markle usually brings when I tell him to pick up the drinks and then complain about what he brings, and … oh yeah mini mint chocolate balls, you may not have known this BUT the mint in chocolate cancels out the calories, like in math when you are multiplying fractions. Home made Boom Boom Boom hot sauce that my dear friend Buzzy sent home with me from Vermont, a vegetable tray that was strangely neglected even though there was a nice dip and tangerine oranges cause it was a Chinese New Year celebration after all.

I am sure you are wondering who was there to enjoy it… Well, Darryl Bandorro my wonderful mortgage broker and his wife came. Darryl was at my mortgage warming party just a week before and could hardly recognize the house, we made so many great changes. I highly recommend working with him, great service and knowledge as well as fantastic rates! Also my plumber and his helper, the guys on our team, our new estimator, my sister and MAX her 4 year old son, who is a little bit LOUD and very cute, a friend who is an amazing business mentor who just moved here from Vermont, let me know if you need some very good advice I will put you in touch with Nancy. And Daniel, who owns Strokes of Genius a painting and provides great service; you are in very good hands with his company.

I invited some flients who mostly couldn’t come this time but they often do, holidaying somewhere tropical the poor things.

And we all ate and admired the brilliance of the design. I know I’m not supposed to say it but it’s good, and this was such a tough project. Like a 3d puzzle made of liquid that was happening in a different gravitational field, and it’s not done yet, this is just the first phase.

It’s a little unfathomable like the chile I had to ask for compliments for cause everyone was too busy eating what makes it so yummy. As it’s hard to say what makes our work stand out but it does. I’m renovating this house now I want to live in it but the plan was for me to build an addition for myself when this is done. Markle reminded me that everything we make I would want to live in if I was allowed and I thought, dam he’s right again but don’t tell him cause it will surely go to his head.

I have studied with Master Chan Ky Yut for over 25 years now, A Chinese master of many arts who has so very patiently taught me art, meditation and tai chi mostly he has taught me harmony, and each week we would all sit down to eat together.

When you visit a home we have created you can feel that we share meals together. It’s perhaps the secret ingredient like the brown sugar my big sister taught me to sneak into the chili if I make it too spicy to calm it down.
