New Beginnings & Wrapping Things Up

such a pretty kitchen

It’s almost Chinese New Year, on February 3 I will welcome in this year of the Rabbit with a happy heart, it’s been such a very long year… I finished the little black dress for the kitchen and started dismantling the little house I own the mortgage on. I am sharing photos of each and will write more next week when I’m not all played out. It felt so good to pick up my tools again and I look forward to working on this house with my very own two hands.

It reminded me when I first became an apprentice carpenter… I would go to the site for 7:30 and work all day framing a house and hauling materials around without hardly looking up cause every time I did I had to cope with some sexist joke or comment and that was the part that was truly exhausting. I would work till 4:30 when we quit and I LOVED the work. Get into my little orange city auction Toyota pick up truck with the plywood tail gate that I made myself and drive home. When I would land safe and sound in my drive way, pretty much as soon as I cut the ignition, I would fall into a pretty deep sleep right there in my truck and stay that way till one of the friends I lived with pulled in and woke me up.

It felt like that to be working with my body just a little this week, tired in a good way and happy to be making with my hands. My vision for this gentle rabbit year is to give more of this to myself, I had forgotten how much I LOVE to work, LOVE to build. How much I have missed it.
